Brrr. and benches.

For some reason I am cold tonight. That awful, bone-chilling, can't get away from it, why won't the heat ever bring the temperature up in this friggin' house cold. It's late and I am waiting for L to return home from her fly fishing class with KFC from the big town of Ellsworth. It might be cold, but I don't care. I'll nuke it. I'm about ready to nuke me, if I can just figure out how to get in there and then still be able to push the buttons. Brr.

I have to say I am astounded by the interest and traffic my little bondage bench has attracted in the past three days. My friend Ponyboy Rusty posted a note about it to a few newsgroups he belongs to and I have had steady traffic, and I mean steady - not an hour goes by without at least a few hits - ever since. I think I got something like 300 hits in the first 24 hours. No shit.

I'd love to sell these benches at the FFFlea next weekend. I only have the one prototype, but there seems to be a great number of people interested in checking it out and trying it out. If 2% buy, I'll be thrilled. I have order forms made up and am working with the bank to see if I can take Visa and MasterCard and what I have to do to make that happen. Whoda thunk?

I think I'll be willing to sell the prototype if someone wants to buy it next weekend, but only at the end of the event. I need to get as much feedback on the thing as I can before I part with it. Today I worked on designing a box to store the thing flat and so it will roll under a bed. It might be a tight squeeze for some, and others may have to get those bed lift things over at Lowe's, but the box is going to be very, very cool. Imagine having this kick-ass piece of equipment that goes together in five minutes without tools and breaks down in less time and stores flat in a box that rolls under the bed. Damn.

I am thinking about asking $975 for it. Plus shipping. 50% deposit with the order, half is refundable if the order is cancelled within a week, none if it is canceled after a week. Shipping costs between $100 and $135 depending on where you are in the US. I ship with UPS, too. It's the easiest, most reliable thing near me. And they'll be thrilled that the thing comes in its own box with wheels. Weighs about 75 pounds. Easy to pack up and take along on vacation, easy to tuck under the bed or behind the couch when the in-laws show up. Under a grand. Super heavy-duty welded steel. What's not to love?

If I sell a couple of these things, I owe Rusty a nice dinner. Maybe a bag of oats? Nah, maybe a real meal in a fancy restaurant. I'll let him choose.

I am still overwhelmed at the traffic. The other night I sat and watched the Feedjit counter thing just scroll down with new towns as people logged on and checked the thing out. I hope this bodes as well as I think it might. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I'm hypothesizing that with the economic downturn, there will be a fair number of people turning to toys as something of a coping mechanism. Would work well for you!

Damn, I hope this works for you. I hope you sell an even dozen next weekend and are the talk of the event. I don't think I can imagine what all can be done with it, but there are others who are more imaginative than I, and I want them to buy these off you in great numbers. :) Good luck!

That's awesome. I wish I could think of some invention I could make and sell. But then again, I really don't know how to make anything...

I wouldn't be surprised if you encounter some people who want you to design something custom just for them. That would be kind of cool, too, wouldn't it?

Isn't the internet amazing?

My my my that looks like quite the fun...bench. I admire anyone who can make things, I personally have trouble sewing on a damn button. I can do a lot of things but 'making' things just doesn't seem to be one of them. Here's hoping you have many sales in the very near future!

Yeah, Whoda Thunk? Niche markets are wonderful to tap into. People who cannot satisfy their "hobbies" at the conventional retail level will pay dearly for quality products when they find them. My recent immersion into the wet shaving world tells me that. And your responses to your back room gadget reinforces it.

Good luck with it. And BTW, speaking from the experience of a person who has sold to the public, your terms sound fine, but be ready to be flexible.
